Stein Nominated As CEO for 27,000-Employee Vietnamese Firm, But Declines
After three successive trips to Vietnam in 2013, Jonathan was nominated to be CEO of Mai Linh Group by its famous Chairman, Ho Huy. Jonathan has served as outside counsel on a number of financial and other matters for Mai Linh Group, the largest taxi service in Vietnam with 27,000 employees and 10,000 vehicles worth several hundred million US dollars. Jonathan declined the honor, deciding to continue his well-established legal practice in Los Angeles. “I profusely thank Mai Linh and Ho Huy, but my wife didn’t really bargain for a move to Ho Chi Minh City. And I don’t think I can leave trial work just yet, winning means too much to me.”

Jonathan Stein leads 20 speakers to a unanimous Santa Monica City Council vote to decrease flight operations at Santa Monica Airport — April 2013
Jonathan helped organize approximately 20 speakers in favor of much higher landing fees at Santa Monica Airport at a contentious City Council meeting. Jonathan and the other activists from eight neighborhoods in Santa Monica and Los Angeles were opposed by national, regional and local pilot associations. After almost 100 speakers presented, the City Council voted unanimously in favor of the much higher landing fees, which have already reduced flight operations at the Airport by over 20%.
Jonathan Stein forms Sunset Park Anti-Airport and helps organize Santa Monica’s second largest voting bloc — Nov 2012
For the 2012 election cycle, four City Council positions were up for grabs. Jonathan worked with neighborhood activists to form Sunset Park Anti-Airport, Inc., a NFP corporation registered as an independent expenditure committee in California and as a 501(c)(4) civic league. SPAA organized a voting bloc which accounted for approximately 2,000 voters out of 10,000 which voted in November 2012. Two new Councilpersons were elected to the Santa Monica City Council whose anti-airport views earned SPAA support.
